This place actively made it very difficult to purchase a car. Despite having made a reservation to buy a car, and arriving 15 minutes prior to my reservation, I was not helped for over an hour despite countless staff out on the sales floor clearly with spare time on their hands. I came in ready and willing to purchase a car. In fact, a luxury $40K+ vehicle. The customer service, or lack thereof, made me take my business elsewhere.

Rude employee Sam just stared me and my girlfriend down while checking out a new car and was asking how I will afford this and had energy of assuming I won't buy it and my girlfriend felt very uncomfortable walking in front of him.

Last update: The situation was resolved with a buyback. I dealt with it from September of 24' to February of last year. I have had to replace a few things with the car that I got switched out, but ultimately it works far better. We're done with service #3 now with the same exact issues as when I started. It's now also making an odd noise when idling. The customer service has improved but the actual work done has not. I now have to take my car directly to Honda for service and potentially to another mechanic for a diagnostic service. Go somewhere else for a car. You'll be dealing with them for months on end with no resolution. Before you consider going to CarMax Sacramento, PLEASE explore all your other options. I strongly recommend NOT using CarMax at all. If you fall in love with a car they're selling, get it sent to the Roseville location, where you'll deal with more respectful and competent employees. Every person I spoke to made at least one mistake. First, every single person failed to update my phone number and email address even though I asked, so they kept sending paperwork to the wrong places. I was also misquoted for my trade-in. Although I had trouble with insurance (which wasn't their fault), I sent the updated info to multiple people, yet they kept asking for documents I had already provided. Finalizing the paperwork was a hassle because they still didn't update my contact info correctly. Even after the keys were brought out, they forgot to remove the trackers, so the employee had to go back and fix that. The center console was wobbly and broken. After just 3-4 hours, I heard a clicking noise and had to call them back, where I dealt with a very rude representative who clearly wanted me off the phone. After regrouping, I called again, and she was rude again. They offered me a rental, which I took because I didn't want to risk damaging the car so soon after getting it. Upon closer inspection, I found a random device bolted under the steering wheel with a frayed wire that had been taped over--something they should've caught before selling me the car. Not sure if they did it or not. When I arrived to pick up the rental, they asked again for my temporary ID, which I had already given them multiple times. To make matters worse, they still had the canceled insurance policy on file, despite me sending the new information to multiple people. They then informed me the soonest repair appointment was the 26th and they couldn't adjust my car payment date, meaning I'll be without my car for two weeks while still paying for it. Not just that, I wrote that the device was underneath the steering wheel, told them multiple times it was underneath the steering wheel, and was still asked twice if it was under the center console. Evidentially they don't properly file paperwork or communicate back there. The rental itself was filthy, with French fries left inside, and it wasn't even filled up all the way. It also guzzled gas, which was too expensive for me, so I went back to exchange it. When I arrived, an employee rudely asked me, 'So where's the car?' as if I had done something wrong by not pulling it all the way in, which I wasn't instructed to do. She sounded genuinely mad and offended. The second rental is better on gas but has squeaky brakes, smells sour like marijuana when it sits in the sun, is dirty with trash between the seat and console, and one of the two key fobs don't work. The speakers crackle. They advised me their rentals are cars off of their lot. It's shocking they were trying to sell this car to someone in such bad condition. I hope my car is done sooner than the 26th because this has been the worst customer service experience I've ever had. Almost every employee I interacted with needs retraining, especially on communication and basic manners. Bottom line: Take your business somewhere else, or at least go to the Roseville location where you won't have to deal with these issues. Editing to add on because somehow this situation has gotten worse: I was contacted yet again for paperwork THEY HAVE BEEN GIVEN MULTIPLE TIMES. I still don't have a fully functioning car after service, they did practically nothing to it, only removed the wire and didn't actually look into the problem of my car. I have my next appointment on the 26th and if my problems are not resolved, then I'm going to be filing a complaint with Department of consumer affairs. Please, everyone be very informed about who you are purchasing from.

Excellent service and staff. The vehicles can be a bit disappointing but there are unicorns if you know what your looking for. Definitely worth the trip.

We went it to sell/trade our ‘08 Yaris but reserved an Outback to test drive just in case and went home with the Outback. This is the second car we’ve bought from this location and like last time, it was a great experience. Before purchasing, we went over a list of items we wanted repaired and verified it’d be covered in the warranty. Our sales rep, Mercedes, wrote everything down and double checked a few things before making any promises. Once we were all good to go, she walked us through all the trade in and purchase paperwork. It was easy, and took just a couple hours. Genuine, no pressure buying experience. I can’t imagine spending a whole day at a regular dealership when Carmax exists. We bought the car when it was dark outside so the following day we noticed a couple other little things and made the call to see about adding some more items to our repair list and there was zero pushback. Easy breezy and we got our repair appointment scheduled.
